Kim Tae-yong’s brand new look on a korean classic

Director Kim Taeyong 김태용 (Late Autumn 만추, Memento Mori…) has directed a special modern rendition of the oldest silent korean film still existing, 청춘의 십자로 (Crossraods of youth), dating from 1934. As only some reels of the film have been found, Kim Tae-yong has made a new edit so that the film is understandable. Dialogues is played on stage with also music, in a great mix of performance and cinema. The event has been held first in Pusan Film Festival 2012, then mostly in the old Seoul railway Station, and in Berlin Film festival 2013.

This is part of an another project that Kim Tae-yong is pursuing, a film tentatively called ‘The movie teller », which will tell the life of the teller on the side of the film who were playing the dialogues and made the screening more entertaining than the film itself. It was a very popular habit in the beginning of the Korean Cinema (twenties to forties), also related to the great tradition of Pansori in Korea. This film is selected in the Asian Projects Market of the upcoming Pusan Film Festival.
